Captain Apathy
Birmingham, UK
Captain Apathy is a Birmingham-based producer and artist, originally born in Middlesbrough. Known for his unapologetically punchy and aggressive beats, he fuses heavy basslines with an eclectic range of electronic influences, spanning Drum and Bass, Electro, and Trip Hop.
The name Captain Apathy was born out of a sharp teenage moment—when a teacher dryly noted that his ability was rivalled only by his apathy. A close friend turned the comment into a nickname, and it stuck. That blend of sarcasm and identity has shaped the artist's ethos ever since.
Drawing inspiration from a broad musical palette, Captain Apathy cites heavyweight influences like Noisia, Kings of the Rollers, and Dillinja, gravitating toward “big, nasty, moving bass noises” that rattle both bones and expectations.
A standout moment in his journey so far? Performing one of his own Electro/Trip Hop tracks to Badly Drawn Boy inside an inflatable tent in Manchester Town Hall—right after a review from none other than Howard Marks (Mr. Nice). Surreal, unforgettable, and peak Captain Apathy.
While his own style leans toward energetic bass-driven chaos, his dream collab is crystal clear: Noisia. Not just for the sound, but for the alchemy—“I don’t think my style is naturally as heavy, but I just neeeed to know how they make those noises.”
